Watering Tips for a Healthy Lawn

Watering Tips for a Healthy Lawn

Proper watering is essential for maintaining a healthy lawn turf. Even drought-tolerant varieties require relatively frequent watering to ensure that they don’t dry out. Rainfall is a great source of water for your lawn, but when it’s hot, you may need to provide some supplementary watering.

Have a regular watering schedule

Depending on the type of lawn you have and the weather in your area, you need to work out a schedule for watering your lawn to ensure that it remains in tip-top shape.

It’s important to remember that watering is not just about wetting the surface.Wet blades don’t necessarily mean the grass is fully absorbing the water; the water is absorbed through the roots after all. To check if your lawn turf is getting the water it needs, you have to check the dampness of the soil by digging out a small hole. Properly watered soil is cool, dark and moist.

During warm months, your lawn might require deep watering two to three times each week. Deep watering promotes better growth and a healthier root system, making your lawn more resistant to lawn diseases and weeds.

Water at the right time

The best time to water your lawn is early in the morning, before the sun fully rises. This helps prevent fast evaporation, and it gives your lawn enough time to fully absorb the water. It also keeps the lawn cooler during the warmer parts of the day. If you can’t water in the morning, the next best time for watering is during late afternoons.
