Keeping Your Lawn Refreshed in the Summer Heat

Keeping Your Lawn Refreshed in the Summer Heat

The intense summer heat and dryness means that your instant turf will require extra care and attention to maintain its condition.

Are you wondering what you can do to keep your lawn healthy and fresh this summer? Here are some handy tips to help you out!

Water smartly

During the hotter and drier months of the year, it’s more efficient to water your lawn deeply rather than shallowly. Regular, deep watering allows the water to seep right into the root system, encouraging deeper and stronger growth. Contrastingly, the water is more likely to evaporate quickly if you only hit the surface. To further encourage deep watering, schedule your watering for early mornings before the heat rises. This gives the roots the best chance of being reached as you ultimately avoid losing moisture and raising humidity which may become a problem if you water when it’s already hot.

Mow at the right height

The ideal mowing height for your lawn depends on the grass type. Be mindful of the type of grass you have because sometimes cutting the grass too short can lead your root system to become severely damaged. Longer leaf blades are actually more effective at keeping the roots and soil cooler because they insulate the area better.

Feed your lawn

Your lawn will require nutrients to keep it strong and durable against extreme weather conditions. Properly fertilised, your lawn will benefit from healthy blades and a strong root system. Applying a slow-release fertiliser before watering may do wonders for the health of your lawn. However, just make sure that the fertiliser you use is the right one for your grass type. Do your research!

Weeding

Weed control is necessary when caring for your lawn. During summer, weeds grow far quicker as it’s easier for them to germinate with plenty of sunlight. When dealing with weeds, it’s better to address them right away before they fully grow and damage your lawn. There are various weed control options available. Manually pulling them out, depriving them of sunlight, or even spraying them with solution are effective ways to rid your lawn area of those pesky weeds.
